This traditional 6500 square feet custom home is perfectly designed and masterfully built in an exclusive gated cul de sac located in Victoria B.C. It is a perfect example of how to maximize a lot, and work within the confines of a building envelope.
To prepare the site, the existing grade level had to be raised vertically 6.0 meters to create a level building site. This was a huge expense, but well worth it in the long run.
Once this was achieved, we determined the footprint needed a bend in the design, to gain separation from the neighboring homes on either side. This would provide privacy, and situate the home in direct sunlight.
One of the main criteria was to provide for a second garage for the homeowners classic car collection. Some consideration was initially given to a construct a subterranean garage, below the main garage connected with a hoist, but preference was given in the end for an external driveway along side the house down to the lowest level.
We were able to achieve this into the design with careful grade calculations for the lower driveway and designed a second garage on the lower floor. To be able to have a party with your cars is pretty sweet, wouldn’t you agree.
The home seems to flow effortlessly, both inside and out. But make no mistake it wall all painstakingly and carefully contrived. The great room is the focal point that sets up perfectly for outside vistas and the rational angles allow the rooms to flow with seamless continuity. Top to bottom, nothing is out of place.
This home is a wonderful mixture of form over function, elegant timelessness, and old world charm. The exterior is traditional but the interior is quite contemporary, blending the present with the past.
A home perfect for entertaining, spending time with friends, family, and of course, your favorite automobile.
